Mount Rinjani Premium Insurance

Mount Rinjani is a popular outdoor destination, but safety has become a major global concern following several fatal accidents in 2025, including the death of a Brazilian tourist. The safety of climbers on Mount Rinjani is expected to spark a major debate across social media and international news outlets.

Therefore, policy makers at Mount Rinjani National Park have formed a special disaster management and evacuation team for injured climbers. They have also fully repaired the trekking trails and apply premium Insurance as an answer to that.

what is premium insurance ?

Mount Rinjani National Park offers insurance through local vendors for IDR 290,000 per person. This insurance is optional for Indonesian visitors. However, it is mandatory for foreign nationals, unless they already have personal insurance that covers helicopter evacuation.

The latest regulation 5 march 2026 for Mount Rinjani requires all foreign visitors to have insurance that covers helicopter evacuation/Premium Insurance. This can be from either a local or an international provider. If visitors already have their own coverage, they do not need to purchase the insurance offered by the national park.

The differences between the premium and standard insurance are:

  1. Price: The standard insurance costs 10,000, whereas the premium version is 290,000—a significant increase.
  2. Evacuation Method: Premium insurance covers helicopter evacuation, while previous policies only covered land-based rescue.
  3. Additional Benefits: The premium plan also offers a different set of coverage benefits

Emergency Helicopter Evacuation

  • Who can use it? Only hikers in a life-threatening or emergency situation.
  • How is it decided? A doctor must examine you first and officially declare it an emergency.
  • What is covered? Serious medical issues such as broken bones, head trauma, extreme cold (hypothermia/frostbite), or fainting/unconsciousness.
  • Insurance Payouts:
